CAMS International Rising Star
CAMS Rising Star Overview
The CAMS Rising Star is part of a broader
CAMS sports development program.
The CAMS Rising Star program supports the major pathway
for open wheel motor racing and therefore supports the
other elements of the broader program, i.e. to increase
participation. Without well defined pathways, grass
roots participation will be negatively effected.
CAMS Rising Star Objectives
The key objectives of the CAMS Rising Star are as
follows:
+ to provide a structure to facilitate the development
of racing drivers from sprint/super karting and other
lower levels of competition to national open wheel
racing (e.g. Formula Ford);
+ to work with the Australian Motor Sport Foundation (AMSF)
to provide a structure to facilitate the development of
racing drivers from national open wheel racing to the
pinnacle of international open wheel racing (i.e.
Formula 1); and
+ to increase participation in motor sport through
clearly defined and supported progressional pathways.

One of the 2007 CAMS Rising Stars, Ashley Walsh began his racing career
at the Ipswich Kart track in 1999 and won the C grade title in Karts.
Having raced for seven years, Ashley won numerous titles in karting
including the Australian junior Clubman and Junior Piston port titles in
2003 and the Australian intercontinental A Championship in 2004.
Ashley turned to Formula Ford in 2005, competing in the QLD series,
winning two rounds and claiming a pole position.
2006 was Ashley's debut national Formula Ford season. He finished third
in the Championship and was selected to join the CAMS Rising Star
program for this year.
Ashley plans to remain in open wheelers and has set his sights on this
year’s title before progressing to Formula BMW or Renault in the UK and
the British or European Formula 3 in the following years.
